Chrome will not open after being closed
Many recent version of Google Chrome exhibit a behavior where after Chrome is closed it will not open again, and many people end up rebooting to fix it. Upon inspection using the task manager one sees that a couple chrome processes are still running and only after exiting those processes will Chrome open again.
While the cause of this is not apparent the current work around seems to be to recreate the default “chrome” profile.
- End all chrome tasks
- Open chrome and export any bookmarks to a file
- Close chrome and again end all chrome tasks
- Rename the folder named “default” to “defaultold” in
C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data)
- Open chrome (you will notice that a new folder called “default” will appear in that location)
- Import bookmarks
